Welcome

Work and Prayer (Ora et Labora, a Benedictine motto) is a program hosted by Saint John’s Abbey and led by Fr. Lew Grobe, OSB. During the academic year, on several Saturday afternoons, Saint John’s University students are invited to attend the 11:30 am mass and then accompany the monks to lunch in the monastic refectory, followed by projects around the monastery and its apostolates.

Saint John’s Abbey welcomes baptized and confirmed Roman Catholic men, ages 18-43, who have come to desire a fuller relationship with God. We offer a place for men drawn to explore the depths of prayer, both in solitude and liturgy. These men will live the call to holiness through personal discipline and community life and have developed the maturity to commit to work, study, and spiritual conversion.

If you sense that God may be inviting you to consider monastic life as you seek to live out the Gospel, we welcome you to contact us.
